Tire Pressure for Every Bike Type
Discover optimal pressure values for your bike type
Road Bikes
Road bikes typically require higher pressure for lower rolling resistance on smooth surfaces.
Mountain Bikes
Mountain bikes use lower pressures for better traction and shock absorption on rough terrain.
Gravel Bikes
Gravel bikes need a balance between efficiency and comfort for mixed-surface riding.
City/Hybrid Bikes
City bikes benefit from moderate pressure for comfort and durability on urban surfaces.
Bike tire pressure chart
Starting values for a rider of about 75 kg. Heavier riders add roughly 5% per extra 10 kg, lighter riders subtract the same. Run the front tyre 5–10% softer than the rear, and go 10–15% lower with tubeless tyres.

Never exceed the maximum pressure printed on the tyre sidewall or the rim. Hookless rims are usually limited to 72 PSI (5 bar).

Tire Pressure Tips
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I check my tire pressure?
You should check your tire pressure at least once a week, as bicycle tires naturally lose air over time. Before long rides, it's always a good idea to check your pressure.
Why is the front tire pressure lower than the rear?
The rear tire typically carries about 60% of the rider's weight, while the front carries about 40%. Having slightly lower pressure in the front tire improves handling and comfort.
Does temperature affect tire pressure?
Yes, tire pressure increases in hot weather and decreases in cold weather. For every 10°C (18°F) change in temperature, tire pressure changes by about 2%.
What happens if I ride with too low tire pressure?
Too low pressure increases the risk of pinch flats (snake bites), rim damage, and excessive tire wear. It also makes pedaling less efficient due to increased rolling resistance.
What happens if I ride with too high tire pressure?
Too high pressure reduces comfort, traction, and can make the bike feel harsh. It can also lead to premature tire wear in the center of the tread and potentially dangerous blowouts.
