Are public bike pumps free to use?

Yes. Public repair stations and air pumps installed by cities, transit operators and businesses are free. Some bike shops also let cyclists use their pump for free during opening hours.

Do public bike pumps work with Presta valves?

Most modern public pumps have a dual head for Presta and Schrader valves. Older gas-station air lines only fit Schrader, so riders with Presta valves should carry a small brass adapter.
